Filtration in Pool Water Treatment

Filtration is one of the most important elements in any pool water treatment system.

When designed, installed, and operated correctly, a filtration system removes particulate matter, reduces turbidity, improves water clarity, suppresses microbiological activity, and delivers pool water ready for the next stages of treatment.

Sand Filtration

Sand filters clean pool water through several mechanisms, including adsorption, mechanical straining, sedimentation, and chemical processes such as coagulation. The water circulates in a continuous closed-loop cycle, undergoing progressive cleaning with each pass through the filter.

The advantages of sand filters include affordability, operational simplicity, and decades of successful use in pool systems.

Traditionally, sand filtration systems have been the preferred choice due to their lower capital and operating costs, as well as their proven reliability and robustness within the industry. However, advances in recent years have introduced alternative technologies, each offering different benefits depending on the application.

Ceramic Micro Filtration

In partnership with LiqTech, Barr + Wray offers best-in-class microfiltration solutions for commercial pools. Conventional sand filtration technologies use a high amount of chemicals for disinfection, where our superior pool filtration system has a high focus on reducing chemical consumption.

LiqTech QlariFlow™ is a compact, high-performance ceramic membrane filtration system designed for modern commercial pools. LiqTech’s microfiltration system offers innovative pool filtration systems based on high-quality silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic filters providing high efficiency and reduced life cycle costs. You will experience savings on backwash, electricity, chemicals, and maintenance.

Benefits of the LiqTech Micro Filtration System
  • Smallest footprint on the market
