Barr + Wray are proud to announce the commencement of works at the historic Kings Hall Leisure Centre in Hackney.
Originally opened in 1897 as the Hackney Public Baths, this Grade II listed building stands as a cherished landmark at the heart of the community. Today, it is undergoing a sensitive yet ambitious transformation, one that carefully preserves its Victorian heritage while delivering a truly modern leisure destination for future generations.
Upon completion, the refurbished centre will feature a brand-new 25m teaching pool, a dedicated sports hall, extended gym and studio spaces, sauna & steam room, secure cycle storage, and a new accessible entrance opening onto Clapton Square.
Our scope of works includes the installation of Myrtha Pools Renovaction technology in all three pools (the 25m mixed pool, 25m teaching pool, and learner pool), incorporating hidden pool covers, a Variopool movable floor, and Pool Pods for enhanced accessibility. In line with our commitment to sustainability, we are also installing state-of-the-art, energy-efficient LiqTech Ceramic Micro Filtration systems for all pools.
This marks our second major project for Hackney Council in recent years, following the completion of the new Britannia Leisure Centre in 2021.
We look forward to delivering a landmark project that honours the past while embracing the future of leisure in Hackney.
