Originally built in the 1800's, the Gainsborough Bath Spa occupies two Grade II-listed buildings with distinguished Georgian and Victorian façades in the heart of the World Heritage Site. The luxury hotel is centred around Spa Village Bath and, uniquely in the UK, has the exclusive privilege of having access to the natural thermal, mineral-rich waters.
The spa experience enables guests to begin their visit with a circuit that includes dipping in two natural thermal pools of varying temperatures, traditional and infrared saunas, a steam room, an ice alcove and elegant relaxation areas. The Spa Village integrates the treasured waters of Bath with private aquatic body therapies and classic spa treatments that focus on personalised aromatherapy.
B+W were awarded the contract to design, supply and install a filtration water treatment plant for both pools and the hotel room baths. Tapping into the original thermal springs, B+W designed a miniature filtration system allowing the use of the natural thermal water within the pools and baths without comprising the nature and the temperature of the spring water, offering a contemporary perspective on the city’s thermal water heritage. As the spring water constantly flows from the well under the hotel the pools are continuously being topped up with hot, fresh spring water, leading to an automatic control system being implemented to maintain the volume of the water in the pools, a rather unusual system by industry standard.
