The second Ritz-Carlton property in Malaysia has opened on the beautiful tropical island of Langkawi. Set within an archipelago of over 100 islands, this is fast becoming one of Malaysia’s most popular tourist destinations with the attraction of sandy beaches, lush greenery and the Tarutao National Park. Langkawi was previously a rural isolated island before being allocated ‘duty free’ status, and now thrives as a world class holiday destination.
The development by Kuala Lumpur-based AJ Resorts Sdn Bhd was designed by Phillipe Villeroux of Tropical Area Architects, and involved the construction of a complete luxury resort incorporating seventy guest rooms, fifteen suites and forty-two villas. Additional facilities include multiple pools, kids club facility, multiple food and beverage outlets including Horizon, a Thai themed restaurant perched above a natural rock formation and the inviting sound of the Beach Grill.
B+W were contracted to design, supply, install and commission the works on the islands only ‘overwater’ spa, with sea views available from each of the five treatment rooms. We were responsible for the male and female vitality pools including the filtration water treatment systems. Our works within the spa building also included saunas, a steam room and ice fountain. We also provided a hammam, wet scrub, double and single steam showers within the treatment room area.
