The world class Aquatics Centre in the Aberdeen Sports Village has been completed and will open to the public in Spring 2014. B+W were appointed in 2012 to deliver the water treatment package and water features. The £18.2 million centre is part of the Aberdeen Sports Village development, building on the success of the £28 million regional sports centre which opened in August 2009.
B+W’s involvement included the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the filtration and water treatment systems for both the main 2-metre deep competition pool (50m x 25m) and the 5-metre deep diving pool (25m x 16m). B+W were also responsible for the design and installation of an air cushion system and a surface water agitation system – the latest in diving pool technology. Two separate UV filtration and water treatment plants provide the ability of cross-connection for maintenance purposes.
The aquatics centre will provide competitor seating and spectator seating for 600 and a full timing/video analysis lab will also be in use for both pools connected via B+W’s plant room.
