The £17 million Liverpool Aquatics Centre opened its doors to the public on Saturday, 15th March 2008. Situated in the Wavertree district of Liverpool, the centre incorporates a competition swimming pool (51m x 17m) inclusive of a movable floor and movable boom, a learner pool (20m x 9m) with a movable floor and spectator seating for 400 people, enabling the centre to host major swimming championships.
A plaque will be installed at the complex to celebrate the introduction of swimming lessons in Wavertree around the early 1900's. A local swimmer began these sessions to assist in the prevention of drowning in the River Mersey and Leeds-Liverpool Canal, which at that time were frequent.
B+W was responsible for the design, supply, and installation and commissioning of the main and learner pool filtration and water treatment plants.
