Following a £20 million investment by the local authority, the Mountbatten Centre includes a 50-metre swimming pool, learner pool and spa pool, in addition to a modern 150-station gym, health suite, squash courts, athletics track, outdoor cycling velodrome, multi-use games area, cafe bar and sports hall.
London 2012 have recognised the potential of the new centre and it will be included in the pre-games training camp guide for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The pools are constructed using the Myrtha pre-engineered modular stainless steel systems and one piece underground balance tanks.
B+W was responsible for the supply, installation and commissioning of the ultra-violet filtration and water treatment plants and backwash recovery system. In conjunction with our partners Malmsten Aqualevel, we also supplied an aqua-level screw-jack movable floor (23.5m x 17m) and submersible boom (17m).
Olympic swimmer Katy Sexton officially opened the new building at a ceremony in May 2009.
