B+W is delighted to have completed work at the new multi-functional sports complex in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The brand new £25 million leisure centre designed by AFLS+P architects, is one of the biggest sports facilities in the South East. It hosts a wide range of facilities including; a 150-station gym, indoor cycle studio, 12-court badminton sports hall, 4-rink indoor bowls hall, climbing wall and a café.
Swimming facilities within the centre were designed, supplied, installed and commissioned by B+W including the associated filtration systems. The 8-lane, 50-metre competition pool benefits from two movable floors with a vertical bulkhead which can be moved to divide the pool into two different parts. One of the movable floors (24m x 19m) can be used to accommodate activities such as aqua zumba and baby swimming, with the floor adjusting to the suitable depth depending on the user. On the other side of the pool the movable floor (6m x 4m) was input to create a diving pit. This gives the ability for diving teams to practice and compete.
Main contractors Willmott Dixon wrote, “One success was how well the design and construction teams rallied together to build the Olympic size swimming pool”. The centre opened in 2016 with the first swimming gala at the new pool seeing swimmers try to qualify for the British Swimming Championships. The championships also doubled up as the Team GB trials for the Rio Olympic Games.
