This new cutting edge leisure village in Scarborough has been delivered as part of the £15 million leisure development from Scarborough Borough Council. The scheme also involves Wrenbridge Sport Limited which is part funding it, following a land swap agreement with the council.
The spectacular new facility comprises of an 8-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, learner pool (17m x 7m), fitness centre and an all-weather football pitch which is home to the town’s football team, Scarborough Athletic Football Club. Working once again alongside main contractors, Willmott Dixon and Faulkner Brown Architects, B+W was responsible for the design, supply and installation of both the main and learner pool filtration and water treatment systems. The 25-metre swimming pool was built using Myrtha technology, gifted by Sport England as part of the London 2012 Olympics Legacy. The learner pool (17m x 7m) also benefits from Myrtha technology - supplied and installed directly from B+W.
The building’s improved design and extended swimming pool aims to cater for more local people and clubs, with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of the community. Completed in April 2017, Cllr Tom Fox, Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough and Cllr Derek Bastiman, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council said, “We and our partners have never lost sight of our ultimate goal, which is to create a first class leisure facility for local people and a new football ground for Scarborough Athletic Football Club and other sports and community clubs and groups. This is a milestone in the history of sport and leisure in our borough.”
