Bangor Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex has officially opened. The new £38 million leisure facility was completed in March 2013. The development of the centre includes a £15 million investment from the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL), which was administered by Sport Northern Ireland.
The complex includes the development of Northern Ireland's first FINA standard 50-metre swimming pool, a water zone with sidewinder slide and a gym. Bangor Aurora will take the lead in the development of swimming within the borough and expectations are high that future sporting events will be hosted there.
B+W’s scope of works included the design, supply and commissioning of the competition pool (50m x 25m), complete with two movable booms and two movable floors, the 5-metre deep diving pool (25m x 15m) with a movable floor and diving bubble cushion, a leisure pool (25m x 20m) with a four-chamber wave machine, two spas and filtered water supplies for the flume rides and water play structures.
