The new sport, health and wellbeing facility is part of the latest, in a series of new facilities being created at Strathclyde University. This follows the opening of the Technology & Innovation Centre, which was opened by the Queen last year and brings the university’s investment in its campus to more than £600 million this decade.
The new facility will enable the university’s sports clubs to train and compete at the highest levels, as well as providing recreation facilities for the wider community. New services on offer include a 25-metre, 6-lane swimming pool, sauna, steam room, physio rooms, a fitness suite and an increase in the number of venues for a variety of exercise classes.
B+W is delighted to have completed our scope of works, alongside Graham Construction, on this state-of-the-art facility. We were responsible for the filtration system of the 25-metre pool, as well as the movable floor which provides flexibility for a wide range of in water activities. We also supplied and installed the sauna and steam room within the centre.
Professor Sir Jim McDonald, the university principal, said, "At Strathclyde, our students and staff are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are creating a first-class facility that will provide health and wellbeing benefits for the university community, as well as improving participation in sport more generally.”
